Special ships
Some of maritime operations require ships built around a specific tasks. Designed for demanding and non-routine activities, these vessels serve roles that go beyond conventional transport or support activities. Seatech Engineering designs reinforce a wide range of operations, from offshore maintenance and environmental response to research and emergency services, ensuring effectiveness in both routine and critical situations. Our concepts combine robust engineering with flexible layouts and efficient systems, enabling safe, effective and reliable performance across diverse and often challenging marine environments.

Polar Logistic Vessel (L‘Astrolabe)
Versatile icebreaker designed for polar logistic missions and patrol operations, dedicated to withstand the conditions on the frozen seas of Antarctica. Built in Chantiers Piriou Shipyard in Concarneau (France) in 2017 with design support from Seatech Engineering regarding workshop documentation.
Ship’s hull and propulsion systems designed to handle multi-year ice, as well as large pressure ridges and icebergs. Able to withstand towering swells, fierce blizzards and sudden weather changes, often at sub-zero temperatures, and perform efficiently both on ice and open seas, carrying out research and supply missions.

Hopper Dredger (Hydromer)
Europe’s first hydrogen-powered dredger with an innovative electric propulsion system mixing latest generation diesel generators, batteries and hydrogen fuel cells. Currently running on diesel with a hydrogen retrofit scheduled for June 2026, target to replace part of the load with four onboard tanks holding ultimately over 1.6 t of hydrogen.
Built in Chantiers Piriou Shipyard in France in 2024 with Seatech Engineering support in the area of workshop documentation, the vessel will support year-round port maintenance within the Gulf of Lion – i.e. Sète and Leucate – critical for keeping harbor entrances navigable in the wake of storm-driven sediment buildup.
