Advanced design stage of CTV SE-223 unit to support offshore wind development

The development of Polish offshore wind is extremely important to us, so for some time now our engineers have been working hard on our latest project – CTV (Crew Transport Vessel) SE-223 unit. The design is currently at advanced stage, ready for market launch.

SE-223 catamaran will be tasked with safe transfer of technical personnel, along with necessary equipment, between service ports and offshore wind farms. In addition, vessel will enable support of SOVs (Service Operation Vessel) working in the area of farms on the Baltic Sea, thus increasing the service capacity of turbines.

Seatech Engineering, in order to propose a functional and energy-sustainable vessel, made a huge effort to prepare comprehensive concept of the unit. The goal was to develop objectives of a modern catamaran that meets the requirements for European vessels, such as speed, ergonomics, environmental requirements, crew comfort and, what’s important, financial efficiency both during construction and subsequent operation. Considerations made with shipyards and suppliers of necessary equipment, as well as extensive work of our initial design team, led to the development of a complete basic design of SE-223. Intensive work is currently underway to prepare classification design of the vessel.

A key premise of the designed unit was its lightweight, aluminum construction that ensures fast and efficient crews’ transportation. This kind of design approach responds to the needs of offshore wind market to use small vessels with optimized operating costs. Catamaran, with length of 26m and operating autonomy set at 5 days, will be able to take on board 4 crew members and 24 service technicians. In proposed layout, it will have the possibility to use several propulsion systems – conventional, Water Jet propulsion and Pod system. In addition, going green, SE-223 will be able to use a hybrid fuel system, where diesel engines will be supported by electricity stored in batteries. We are also working on adapting vessel to run on e-methanol. Design is based on the requirements of key classification societies for high-speed vessels.

Due to advanced stage of SE-223, we are in the process of intensive discussions regarding commercialization of this project. There is a good chance that the unit will soon support the development of Polish offshore wind.
